Saturday Surfing, October 6th, 2018

This may or may not be the very first time I’ve done my hair in a couple weeks.
Hey there, wonderful pea. happy Caturday!

I have a theory that if there’s ever anything I’ve felt or believed, possibilities are, somebody else available has felt or believed it too, soooooo…let’s talk hair.

I understand it’s insignificant in the universal plan of things, however I’ve been feeling kinda low-grade “meh” lately since of different starved viruses over the past month since Connor started preschool, as well as I’ve only truly started feeling like myself once again in the last few days, so yesterday I required myself to style my hair for the very first time in weeks, even though I truly just wished to put it up in a untidy bun as well as fail to remember about it…

But you understand what? I feel so much more practical when my hair is done.

Is that weird?

It’s like when I wear pajamas all the time long… Whenever I do it, I feel crappy as well as unmotivated to do anything at all, as well as obviously it’s the exact same method for me with hair. When I take the time to style it as well as do at least a bit something to smooth my bangs as well as curl a few pieces framing my face, I feel much better as well as more capable of heading out into the world.

Anywho…are you like that too?

By the way, the base makeup I’m using right here is the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Away liquid Concealer as well as brilliant Magic Powder combo I talked about the other day, as well as I just have to state it again: It’s SO GOOD. Also, the lipstick is MAC Powder Kiss in Sultriness.

Now onto this week’s reading…

Makeup and appeal blog Monday Poll, Vol. 528

So…what is the Monday Poll?

Good question! It isn’t, in contrast to its name, an actual poll. It’s just a list of five a lot more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past gazillion years (more than 10!). I love reading your answers, and it helps me get my week off to a great start. ?

Rise and shine, morning glory! delighted Monday. ?? I’ll be in and out today because I have some cool things to do for the Connor Claire store. and I want to do ’em. So that’s what I’m doing today, but I’m also blogging in a way because I’ll be wearing makeup and testing a few things to share with you.

Now, the poll!

1. A little…never hurt anyone.

A little dry shampoo never hurt any individual (best one of all time: R+Co death Valley). I mean, if you think about it, you get an extra day out of your hairdo, lift at your roots, and, in some cases, kick-@ss perfumes (hi, Oribe)… Actually, when I’m made with this, I’m gonna use some because my hair feels gross. It’s been like two days considering that I washed it.

2. crazy baby hairs — how the heck do you tame them?

Well, you can stop battling them and just let them be all crazy, which is what I do sometimes. Or, you can do certain things, like redirecting your part, to make the taming process a little easier.

I part slightly down the center left now, whereas I used to do a deep part on my right, and the only reason I do this now is because of a few weeks when I was too worn out to bother with my hair, and I just let it do what it wanted to, and the baby hairs always went a certain way…so when I just opt for it and don’t spend all my life battling them, it makes my life easier.

So, opt for the grain.

Also, use lots of products if you need to. I highly recommend R+Co – control flexible Paste, and also use a strong hairspray that doesn’t flake (I like Bumble and Bumble strong finish firm Hold Hairspray).

3. who or what do you currently need a break from?

Honestly, I would love a break — or, perhaps, a permanent breakup — from my anxiety. That would be nice. Basically…it’s hard to adult in the Bay Area. There are so lots of times when I just wish we could pack up and step someplace 1) cheaper, 2) that isn’t out in the middle of nowhere, 3) that’s still close to my family, 4) that has great weather 5) and lots of Asians and different cultures.

Where is this place?? You tell me, ’cause I’ll step there. I’ll be your neighbor! ??

Anyway, kids are expensive! and Connor’s starting preschool soon. If we conveniently won the lottery, that would be great.

4. What kind of pie would you like?

I don’t think peaches are in season yet, but they must be soon, right? I would love a peach pie with a crust made from scratch and a big scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. (Not Breyers though. Breyers is bullsh*t.)

5. Reggae — love it or leave it?

I love it for about three hours if it’s sunny and I’m drinking a Corona and wearing shorts and a tank top, but after that I’m asking the DJ to please play something else. I’m done pretending I’m in a Shaggy video.

~ recommendations on fancy ice cream and life ~

I went to a frou-frou ice cream place last weekend for birthday ice cream, and I appreciated their attention to detail with all organic everything, but you have to test every single flavor you’re considering when you go to a place like that. You don’t just jump in and get the mint and then be shocked when it actually tastes like real mint (like El Hub did, haha).

I checked all the flavors. I did my due diligence. ??

So test, test, test! test all those flavors, girl — even if you’re holding up the line and people are behind you tapping their foot.

It Cosmetics Your Skin but better CC+ cream Oil-Free Matte With SPF 40

incredibly new! —> It Cosmetics Your Skin but better CC+ Oil-Free Matte SPF 40 (I wear it in Tan, which is fine for everything below my eyes but borderline ashy on my forehead ideal now because, somewhat ironically, I have a tan at the moment.)
Does It Cosmetics CC+ cream Oil-Free Matte tinted moisturizer hold the secrets of the universe?

Nah, but wouldn’t it be great if it did, though?! I could finally figure out what the heck happened to Jon B.!

My club jam back in the day. someone please rescue him from whatever wormhole he feel into.

It Cosmetics Your Skin but better CC+ cream Oil-Free Matte with SPF 40 ($38 for a 1.08-oz. bottle)

The teal tube may have a summer time look, but it’s something I’ll wear year round. It’s a lightweight medium-coverage tinted moisturizer that’ll have everyone around you believing you’re having a seriously sweet skin day — although, heads up, it won’t deceive the frenemy who goes straight for the jugular and points out a ripe zit right away before saying something like, “Me? Oh, I never get pimples.”

Bless her heart!

“Developed with plastic surgeons, Your Skin but better CC+ cream Oil-Free Matte delivers color-correcting full coverage, anti-aging skincare, and SPF 40 broad-spectrum physical sunscreen—all with a poreless, natural-looking matte finish that lasts. This multitasking, complexion-perfecting breakthrough quickly camouflages skin imperfections including dark spots without creasing or cracking and is clinically checked to minimize shine and control oil for up to 12 hours. It’s also infused with charcoal to detoxify, colloidal clay to absorb oil, and tea tree extract to combat blemishes—plus, an advanced anti-aging serum made of hydrolyzed collagen, peptides, niacin, hyaluronic acid, vitamins, and antioxidants. You’ll see powerful results quickly and a lot more dramatic results over time.

“It delivers seven benefits, all in one! Full-coverage matte foundation, SPF 40 UVA/UVB broad-spectrum physical sunscreen, brightening color corrector, hydrating anti-aging serum, poreless finish primer, dark spot concealer, and moisturizing day cream.”

— sephora.com

Smaller pores and even tone? yes and yes. and here’s the kicker, which takes it over le top: the matte finish absolutely locks down shine, and it’s just matte enough. Not too harsh.

A tan girl wearing Tan

It Cosmetics Your Skin but better CC+ cream Oil-Free Matte with SPF 40 is similar to…

Too Faced’s Peach best comfort Matte Foundation: CC+ has a little less coverage, and a flatter matte finish.

NARS velvet Matte SPF 30: similar finish, texture and coverage, but CC+ is rated for a little better sun protection at SPF 40.

Estée Lauder double wear Light: very similar. It’s thicker than double Wear, which has a runny consistency, so it takes a little a lot more effort to spread and blend, but coverage, finish and wear are generally the same. I like both but like double wear because it isn’t as peach. It’s yellower, which is a better fit for my skin tone.

Bare skin on one side and Tan on the other (for reference, I’m an NC42 in MAC).
You could easily matte it down a lot more by dusting a powder on top, but I like a setting spray instead. A li’l CC+ Matte, a spritz here, a spritz there, and I’m good for the day.

Kiss ‘n’ telling on the new MAC Powder Kiss Lipsticks

Kiss ‘n’ telling on the new MAC Powder Kiss Lipsticks

Besos!
I just want your additional time as well as your mwah-mwah-mwah-mwah-mwah, KISS!

New Powder Kiss Lipsticks from MAC! These mattes feel just like the luscious Chanel Rouge appeal velvets — lightweight, so a lot more like a lip balm than a lipstick — however even creamier. So there’s little-to-no possibility of feline butt lips. (I can hear you sighing from relief.) And, attempt I state it, they’re kinda moisturizing? just a little.

Must apply on dry lips (NON NEGOTIABLE!); otherwise, patchy

Taste as well as odor like vanilla, so traditional MAC

Will step outside your natural lip line if you rub your lips together a lot

Special matte packaging (did you catch that?)

Pigment levels — between medium as well as just timid of full, depending upon color

Less pigmented than MAC Matte lipsticks

Fade after a meal or a cup of coffee

Wear time is about an hour — two, tops

Watch out for vertical lip lines with the paler beige colors as well as pinks (they will highlight them if you apply as well much).

Stand-outs: Mull It Over (a filthy peach) for daily wear, as well as autumn in like (a bright creamy fuchsia) for special occasions

I’m still tracking down prices, however it’s risk-free to presume they’ll be priced similar to routine MAC lipsticks, so about $18.50. Each lippie is $19, as well as they’re all permanent

Final take? These are a’ight… They feel truly smooth as well as lightweight, as well as the hazy matte surface is trés “I’m rock ‘n’ roll as well as as well awesome to care,” however the formula scoots around a great deal as well as doesn’t last long on my lips. If you’re going for this type of soft matte look, the Chanel velvets look extremely similar, as well as while they’re a lot more costly at $37, I believe they’re user-friendlier since they don’t step around as much. Plus, they last longer.

If you’re curious, you can smooch the 16 MAC Powder Kiss Lipsticks starting October 11th, which is when they show up at choose MAC counters as well as the MAC website.

All 16 shades
I’m an NC 42, in situation you’re wondering.
Well this lastly happened

IT only TOOK FOREVER.
I broke my personal pledge to only checked out books I can inspect out out from the library (don’t ask me why I do these things; I just do!) as well as gotten crazy rich Asians since I still couldn’t discover the book at the library for like the 20th time. I just couldn’t take it anymore, LOL!

Easy everyday Hair styles for the pet dog Days of Summer, Day 4: Friday fun Buns

and for a lot more heat-less hair styles for the pet dog days of summer, check out…

Day 1: The Woven Wonder

Day 2: Textured, Tousled Waves

Day 3: Wash-and-Wear Wow

OK, I’m sweating behind my knees and between my toes ideal now… I woke up this morning to second-day air-dried bed-head hair and sweltering heat (today’s been in the ’90s, and we don’t have air conditioning), which left me with the following choices for living my best hair life on a blisteringly hot day like today: 1) throw it into a high pony (boring), 2) squirrel it underneath a hat (which is great for sun protection, but man…hats make me sweat so much.), or 3) fun bun it up.

Wanna guess which option I went with?

I feel like buns had a mega moment a few years back with the whole sock bun trend, but I’m still here for them in a major way. It’s an easy hairstyle for a summer Friday because you can look as sleek and done or as messy and undone as ya please! Do a single bun, or double the fun with two. keep it simple, or jooj it up with dainty Dutch braids (like I do here). They’re surprisingly versatile.

Today’s fun buns is/are the last of the heat-less summer hair styles I had planned for this week, and they build on day 3’s wash-and-wear ‘do.

Once again, I Oribe’d it up…

Dry Texturizing Spray is an old fave of mine (I like keeping a backup on hand), but Mystify Restyling Spray is new to me. You spray it on second-day (or third- or fourth-day hair, for that matter), and it reactivates whatever styling product you have in your hair from the day before. It also has UV and heat protectors to guard your hair if you decide to use hot tools.

Let’s get ready to put the fun in ‘ze bun…

1. fix flatness with dry shampoo

Spray a dry shampoo or texturizing spray through your hair, concentrating at the roots, to lift your second-day style.

If your strands hold buns better when they have some grit in them, then also spray your hair lightly on the mid-shaft and ends.

2. mist with a reactivating spray, then split into two sections

Revive the styling products that are in your hair from the day before by misting an activating spray like Mystify from mid-shaft to the ends, and then separate your hair into two sections, ideal down the middle.

3. Braid, then bun

Working with one section at a time, weave a small Dutch or French braid into your bangs and crown, and then gather your hair into a high pony.

Twist into a bun, and safe it with hair pins. Make it as neat or as messy as you’d like!

4. have some summer fun in those buns!

How frequently Do You wear makeup on locations other Than Your deal with (Arms, Legs or other parts of Your Body)?

How frequently Do You wear makeup on locations other Than Your deal with (Arms, Legs or other parts of Your Body)?

Don’t mind me.
At the beach last weekend I saw all these people using swimwears as well as showing off skin, as well as that got me believing about using makeup on locations other than your face.

I understand celebs frequently wear makeup on their arms, legs, necks, backs as well as even feet (!) for red carpet events, however exactly how frequently do us simple mortals wear body makeup?

Do you ever wear foundation on your legs or limbs to the beach or pool? Or do you wear body makeup on a everyday basis, like, for covering a tattoo for work?

I’m curious to understand if it’s more typical then I believe it is, since body makeup is a unusual thing for me. I’ve only used it when or twice for Halloween, which is what’s going on in this photo from a few years ago. I dressed up as a autumn wood fairy, so I buffed a cream bronzer on my arms, neck as well as hands to make it seem like I’d been roaming around the dirt in the forest.

Was it successful? Dunno. I could’ve been dirtier, LOL! It was fun to experiment, though.

Sometimes, if I’m taking pics for MBB as well as I’m using an off-the-shoulder top or if my hair is up, I’ll wear foundation and/or bronzer on my neck, breast as well as ears to even whatever out so my skin appears consistent on camera from the breast on up, however ya know… It’s not something I’d bother with if I was just chillin’ on a Tuesday.

She loved pink shirts, pink shoes and pink makeup, and she was the first person who pushed me to play with pink. Makeup and appeal blog Monday Poll, Vol. 579

Makeup and appeal blog Monday Poll, Vol. 579

So…what is the Monday Poll?

Excellent question! It isn’t, in contrast to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of five a lot more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007). I love reading your answers, and it helps me get my week off to a good start.

1. Your preferred nail shape?

Slightly squared like a very tired, very lazy oval. So not overly square.

2. What would happen if you rubbed your cat’s belly?

I realize that lots of kitties aren’t down with stomach rubs, but Tabs loved the tum-tum action. He would always purr when I rubbed his stomach fur, which was longer than the rest of his coat. one of my favorite things to do was to run my fingers through that delicious stomach meat!

3. What TV shows are you currently watching?

I’m bouncing back and forth between Claws (although I’m getting to where I need a break), American Ninja Warrior, The bold type and Black Mirror (the new season is only three episodes).

Hmm… Seeing it now, it looks like I enjoy a lot of TV, but it’s normally just on in the background while I do other stuff.

4. Last thing you cooked?

We’ll use the term, “cooked,” loosely in this case, but it was an egg salad sandwich with sliced tomato on a Dave’s killer Bagel (seriously, SO good). then I sprinkled a handful of chopped green onions on top.

OK, can we talk about egg salad method for a moment? Normally, I chop the entire egg, yolk and all, then mix the mayo in, but this time I separated the yolks out first, mixed the mayo in with the yolks, and added the chopped egg whites afterward, and I vow it tasted better than normal (even though they were still technically the same ingredients).

Maybe I’m just reading too much into this. LOL!

5. Are you rocking the tightline today?

Tightline, FOR SURE!

Feelin’ cheesy

I always love finding new places to explore, which we did last weekend at Marin French Cheese. They have a cute little store where you can get their cheeses and other picnic fixin’s like fresh bread, drinks (both adult and otherwise), fresh fruit and preserves, sandwiches and desserts — and all of that’s just for starters.

The shop is located about 20 minutes west of Novato on Novato Boulevard ideal at the point Reyes junction, and they’ve been making cheese there considering that 1865!

After you choose your wares and noms, you can take pleasure in them al fresco down by the pond a few steps away from the store. and if you happen have a fishing pole in the trunk, you can also fish (catch and release only)!

Highly recommended if you’ll be staying in/near Novato, or if you’re on your way out to point Reyes or Tomales Bay.

spring has sprung! ? — and despite the seriousness of current events, Tabs wouldn’t have let it rain on his parade. Nope. spring was his favorite season, and he saw it as a time of incredible creative, mental and spiritual renewal.

Times are hard and getting tougher. Tabs would have said, “Adversity reveals true character.” He was a very inspirational cat.

Space Buns and Sparkly Purple Lids

Space Buns and Sparkly Purple Lids

I may or may not have about a billion bobby pins in my hair at the moment.
I’m sure this tri-bun hairstyle has an official/formal name, but I intend to call it “space buns,” because there’s something undeniably star Wars about it…

If I were hurtling through space on a rocket bound for Mars, and I was required to wear my hair up (to safeguard the sensitive electronic equipment from static discharge, you see), you better believe I would NOT be rocking a basic low pony.

SPACE BUNS ALL THE WAY, GIRLFRIEND.

Side note: Connor calls this a “pony hairstyle” because she’s into horses at the moment.

Maybe it’s the stars twinkling in the firmament…but sparkles and space buns just seem *right* to me, thus the purple glitter in this look.

Wearing some newness from the MAC holiday collection
I got a few compliments from my coworkers when I wore this to the bakery the other day. It was nice. I think it was because this is one of those looks that isn’t too over the top in terms of base and lips (I kept the foundation very sheer and the lips glossy and subtly sparkly, which boosts the wearability for daytime), but I think the glitter is punchy and fun enough to catch your eye.

If you like this type of makeup, you need to follow Katie Jane Hughes on Instagram ASAP. She’s a celeb makeup artist known for her sheer base, the wings she does, and her penchant for sparkle. It’s very inspiring!

I’m wearing MAC Spellbinder shadow in Wishful thinking on my lids.
I’m using some new MAC products from the very sparkly Staring You holiday collection, by the way. This collection, which is out now, has new Spellbinder shadows in glittery holiday shades (you might remember these ionized eyeshadows from 2016).

The new, limited edition MAC Starring You holiday 2019 collection, available now
Two things if you plan on picking up one of these loose shadows: 1) many certainly DO NOT skip wearing an eyeshadow base; and 2) apply it using a stiff, flat eyeshadow brush, or your fingers.
