Trash stock aka Empties: March 2015

I’m officially renaming my Empties articles to trash Stash.  Once again, I’ve accumulated sufficient empty beauty products to publish – I reckon this will be a monthly function going forward.  I can no longer reject it – being on a No-Buy has absolutely required me to utilize up a few of my stash!

Cargo blu_ray HD pressed Powder in 20 – $32 for 8g (select Rexall as well as online)
This was maybe the most satisfying product to lastly surface up.  You understand when you’ve hit pan on a powder, as well as then the hole in the center slowly gets larger as well as larger?  Well, this one, I hit pan months back (even before I started my No-Buy) as well as it seemed like the powder just would NOT get utilized up.  The essential point was when the edges got so thin the powder crumbled.  That was a fist-pump “Yessss!” moment.  Oh as well as I truly such as this powder, it’s extremely finely milled as well as looks almost undetectable on the skin.  It’s one of my all time HG as well as I have a back up in my stash.
Stash worthiness: 10/10

“This product was made by Susan on 18-Jul-13 utilize by 18-Sep-14 finest utilized fresh”
Lush charming Jubblies – $26 for 100g (lush stores as well as online)
I blame YouTube for this.  At one point every 20-something year old appeal guru was speaking about this cream as well as exactly how it assisted to liven up the ladies. HELLO, you’re young as well as nubile, you do NOT requirement this cream!  I did not get this for my jubblies however rather as a curiosity, as well as the sales woman told me I might put in on my derriere if I so desired, like a buttock lift.  Verdict: It’s absolutely useless except it smells great – increased mixed with almond – as well as supplies some hydration to the skin.  I felt no tightening, no lifting, no transcendence.  I had about half of the tub left at the beginning of March as well as observed that the expiration was Sept 2014 (it still smelled fine) so I slapped everything over my body just to utilize it up (and my body was SO TOIGHT… no, no it wasn’t).
Stash worthiness: 2/10

eos hand lotion in cucumber – $4 for 44ml (drugstores)
I truly liked this hand cream – the smell, the texture, the sleek packaging – however, it seemed the scent was rather overpowering as well as I gathered some comments from people around me when I used this (“What’s that smell?“). Once, somebody had a coughing in shape as well as stated it was because of this smell.  So I stopped bring it in my handbag as well as just utilized it up at home. as well bad, I truly liked exactly how compact the tube is, plus it didn’t make my hands excessively greasy, however I don’t want to be accountable for somebody coughing to death since of this.
Stash worthiness: 8/10

Lise Watier Hydrasmart 3D Hydration Metamorphosis Cleansing Gelée – $25 for 150ml (Shoppers medication Mart, LiseWatier.com, choose Bay as well as Sears stores)
I did a evaluation of this in my wintertime night time skincare overview. I won’t repurchase this since it’s rather ineffective in eliminating my eye makeup.
Stash worthiness: 6/10

L’Oreal Natures therapy Scalp relief Leave-In treatment $11.19 for 118ml (Sally appeal Supply)
I published about this in my wintertime scalp care – it’s a excellent product that I’ll always keep in my stash.
Stash worthiness: 10/10

Clarins immediate Light Brush-On Perfector in 00 light beige – $36 for 2ml (department stores)
This is a highlighting pen similar to YSL Touche Eclat.  The finest method I discovered to apply this was to clean it on, let it set for a few minutes, as well as then blend in a patting movement with a flat foundation brush. Technically, there’s still a bit of product inside however I’ve been utilizing this pen on as well as off for 2 years so I believe it’s time to retire it.  I have one more one of these unopened, however in the 01 pink beige shade.  I really like the Maybelline dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer to this.
Stash worthiness: 7/10

Cargo LashActivator night – $29 for 11ml (select Rexall as well as online)
I’ll be doing a in-depth evaluation of this eyelash “elixir” soon. One thing I wished to mention about this tube is something I started doing about 5 years back – notice the sticker at the end of the tube with a date written on it? I do that so I can keep track of when I opened the tube. lots of products now have the bit signs indicating the suggested lifespan of the product when it is opened. For me, this is particularly crucial for liquid eye makeup like mascaras as well as eyeliners. considering that this tube was opened in Sept 2014 as well as the product has a 6 month lifespan, it was time to toss.

Various hotel toiletries as well as skincare samples.  10 down, one more 200 to go.

I do have to highlight one sample I was truly smitten with – the Clarins HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase.  This bit 3ml blue vial lasted me about 10 uses, I used it after my toner as well as before my moisturizer in the evenings as well as it left my skin incredibly soft as well as smooth.  I’m noting this down for future purchase.  Yes, the crack that is cosmetics samples: very first one’s free, but the next one’s going to expense me! (at $59 for 30ml, it’s a bit painful)

Lastly, an honourable mention:

This Essence All about Matt! taking care of Compact Powder ($4 for 8g, buyers medication Mart) shattered when I dropped the case. Thankfully, the compact was closed as well as all of the product stayed inside. I’m going to crush the powder as well as snort it put it into a container to utilize it as a loose powder.

That wraps up one more month of trash Stash!  Have you completed up any type of appeal products lately?

3. Juice Newton

I’m going with a phase as well as have been bumping her music for days.

I particularly like the part in “Angel of the Morning” when she belts it! Also, her hair in this video is epic.

“Queen of Hearts” will always be my fave, though.

Side note: is it just me, or would “Queen of Hearts” be a fun tune for a punk band to cover? I can absolutely hear it.

4. NARS Kalahari eyeshadow duo

Oldie however a goodie. I’ve been using it with MAC Teddy on my lash as well as water lines.

Love ya, Kalahari!
5. utilizing resistance bands in leg workouts

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish

This publish was prompted by the prospect of letting go one of my MAC Mineralize Skinfinish (MSF) in my makeup purge.  By now, you will already know which one got the boot.  I only had 3 of them in total, so the 33% reduction was a considerable event.  I owned:

Left to right:
Stereo increased – Coral with golden bronze shimmering nuances
Petticoat – pale increased with gold as well as amber veining
Rio – Bronze with bright pink pearl

Mineralize Skinfinishes are baked products with a marbled impact which makes them extremely captivating in the pans (they look like bit planets to me!)  MAC explains them as “A extravagant powder with 77-Mineral complex that adds highlights to the deal with as well as body”. MSFs can vary so much in their finish, level of shimmer as well as pigmentation from shade to shade.  There are some that are more of a highlight however some act more like a blush.  The 3 that I own I utilize as blush.

Stereo increased was the most extremely sought after shade after its preliminary release in 2005 in the Goldplay collection. I didn’t promptly jump on the Stereo increased bandwagon as I passed on it in that very first showing. MAC then re-released it in 2010 with the In The Groove Collection, which is when I succumbed to its lure.  The elusiveness of this colour has waned somewhat as MAC has since re-re-released it once again in 2012 (Apres Chic) as well as once again in 2014 (A fantasy of Flowers). According to Temptalia though, the newest 2014 Stereo increased bares bit resemblance of the previous coral toned versions, the 2014 version is simply a peachy wash.  I’ve read that Milani Baked blush in increased D’Oro is similar to this, so if you own that, no requirement to seek out Stereo Rose.

Why I’m focusing so much on Stereo Rose is that I’ve provided it away.  I just might not discover to like it as much as everybody else did.  On me, this just shows up as a coral-ly chunky frost on the cheeks – nothing nuanced about this! It’s so disappointing since it’s gorgeous in the pan.  This was almost “rescued” from the purge stack since I wished to keep it for nostalgia – as well as I’ll admit, MSFs are just look so darn quite to look at!  But in the end, I recognize that it should go to somebody who would really utilize it.  Goodbye, Stereo Rose, you will be missed… up until MAC re-re-re-releases you again.

Petticoat is the oldest MSF in my collection – it came from the 2005 lingerie collection (yes, this thing is 10 years old).  This shade has since been re-released when in the In The Groove Collection in 2010.  This has the lovely duochrome impact that registers as both warm (coral) as well as great (raspberry).

Rio is my newest MSF which I bought in 2013 (Tropical Taboo collection) – by then I had almost sworn off MSFs entirely since of my disdain for Stereo Rose. however Rio is most likely my favourite MSF – it doesn’t have obvious shimmer, it’s more of a sheen, as well as the colour is a gorgeous warm bronze.

Here they are all together for one last time:

I hope the frostiness of Stereo increased is coming across in the photo, as well as exactly how fine-tuned the shimmer is on Petticoat as well as Rio.  So now I’m entrusted to just 2 MAC MSFs, as well as I’m fine with that!  If MAC releases more MSFs that aren’t as well frosty in the future, I may add more to my collection.

Keep in mind that because of the individualized nature of the colour veining in the baked product, the general mixed shade may differ within the exact same shade from batch to batch. If you’re looking to purchase MSFs, you may want to ask the MAC SA to show you a few compacts so you can choose the precise one you want. They expense CAD$37 (may expense more depending upon if there are special restricted edition packaging) for 10g of product (although… I did just notice that my Rio is only 7g!) as well as are made in Italy.

Do you own any type of MAC MSFs?

20 charm concerns label

20 charm concerns label

Here’s a Tag that I saw on Katie of plus Beauty‘s blog ages ago! (I miss Katie, anybody else? I saw on IG that her relocation went well – I’m so pleased for her!)

20 charm concerns Tag:

1. Do you keep in mind your very first makeup item?
It was a frosty pink sticky lip gloss from Avon. It was awful however so remarkable at the exact same time! I wasn’t enabled to wear a stitch of makeup up until I was in high institution (around 14) as well as even then, it was only lip gloss.

Sunny side up lipgloss from Avon (Source) This isn’t what I had however isn’t this awesome? I’d completely purchase that.

2. explain your ideal mascara. have you discovered one that fits your specifications
A volumizing one that doesn’t smudge or flake as well as holds a curl, however can be eliminated without having to rub the dickens out of my eye area. Cover woman LashBlast volume checks all the boxes for me!

3. What type of protection do you choose from foundation?
I choose sheer to medium coverage. Oriental BB creams offer the ideal protection for me.

4. preferred high-end brand?
Shiseido. This brand seems to appear on my blog quite frequently, as well as when I step back to believe about a few of my preferred products in each classification (foundations, eye shadows, blush, skincare), Shiseido does make it to numerous of those lists. now if only Shiseido would introduce a nail polish line, I’d be all set.

5. preferred drugstore brand?
Revlon. I believe in terms of quality, they are quite consistent across the board. I believe their lipsticks as well as nail polishes are the very best at the drugstore level. I likewise truly like their deal with products – their PhotoReady concealer is a preferred of mine.

6. Is there any type of type of makeup you can’t leave the home without?
Concealer as well as brow pencil. even if I running out to go to Tim Hortons, I should apply a touch of concealer as well as pencil those brows in!

7. What is your many treasured charm product?
My MAC restricted edition blush in Prim & appropriate from the provide Me liberty of London collection!

8. exactly how commonly do you shop for makeup?
This year – never. however before… I utilized to shop for makeup on a regular basis! I believe in the month of November in 2014, I estimated that I purchased a makeup product every other day.

9. Do you have a “beauty budget” or you spend freely?
I utilized to spend freely, whenever I came across something I believed was great value (especially at Winners!) or if there was a sale product at Shoppers. because this year has been a No-Buy, my budget plan is ZERO.   next year I’m thinking about a monthly budget plan however I haven’t settled on an amount. as well as I likely won’t have the exact same dollar amount for monthly because I will be purchase much more during my birthday month as well as the holidays, as well as I tend to spend less during the summertime months.

10. What type of product do you purchase the most of?
Nail polish. I just can’t get enough. The colourful bit bottles of wonderful lacquers make me so happy!

11. Do you prevent specific components in cosmetics like parabens or sulfates?
I try to prevent them however I don’t actively exclude those “hot button” ingredients. however I do tend to prevent irritants such as eucalyptus or peppermint in my deal with products.

12. Do you have a preferred location to shop for makeup?
Shoppers medication Mart has won me over. I utilized to be ga-ga over Sephora however ever because SDM upped their charm shop game, I don’t discover myself as enamoured by Sephora. Plus, going to Sephora is an exercise in patience as well as tolerance. If I see one more teenaged woman putting mascara / liner / lipstick directly from the testers, I’m going to cry. SDM charm shop is SO much much more civilized, as well as their optimal points program is so much much more rewarding.

13. Do you like trying new skincare products or do you keep a specific routine?
I do like trying new skincare products however I like to stock some fundamentals that I understand will agree with my skin (Clinique considerably different Lotion, MAC Cleanse Off Oil, Yves Rocher Micellar Water). normally I will only switch out just one new product at a time, just in situation my skin freaks out.

14. preferred bath as well as body brand?
Cake Beauty. It’s a Canadian brand as well as their stuff smells yummy!

15. Do you like multifunctional products like lip as well as cheek stains?
No, I discover that typically the multifunctional products only work well one method – for instance, a lip & cheek discolor typically works method much better as a cheek product as well as is as well drying on the lips.

16. Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?
I don’t believe so? I don’t ruin applying makeup, however I am clumsy in general as well as decrease things… in fact, I dropped an acrylic tray last night as well as a lot of my many utilized makeup products went crashing on the floor. nothing outright broke however a few of my transitional eye shadows in my z-palette crumbled a bit around the edges. UGH. The SO was like, “AGAIN?”

17. Do you ever think about taking makeup classes?
Yes, I’d like to discover some makeup fundamentals. much more for applying makeup on other people than on myself. I’ve only used makeup on a handful of other people as well as I don’t believe I’m qualified! I just understand my own face, really.

18. What do you like about makeup?
This is such a challenging concern to answer! I can’t discuss succinctly WHAT it is about makeup that I love. It makes me happy. It doesn’t judge me. I like the packaging. I like slathering my deal with with it. I don’t get tired with it.

There were only 18 concerns originally in this label however Katie added 2 more, which I believe are great questions!

19. remarkable or natural makeup look?
Definitely a much more natural makeup look. I play up my eyes a bit much more however typically in neutral colours as well as I don’t do heavy liners.  I pay the most interest to having remove smooth skin.  I like this makeup look on design Sui He:

20. Worst makeup-related habit?
Not using lipstick. Or if I apply lipstick in the morning, not reapplying it at all.

Have you done this Tag?   If not, please do it – I’d like to checked out your answers!

He only did it for two years, though. Mind you, he would have played longer if it hadn’t been for an injury…

Still, he won a championship, as he normally did in his various endeavors, and he got pretty famous.

Most cat sports writers consider him to be the best cat tight end of all time.

Blogmas Day 22: favourite past Christmas gifts

Blogmas Day 22: favourite past Christmas gifts

This is the tale of the gift exchange between my SO and I, for our first Christmas together.

We started dating in September, so that official first Christmas doesn’t count since we’d only known each other for 4 months (I think that year I gave him a card and that’s it).  Fast forwarded to the following Christmas, we had been together for just over a year, we were in a committed relationship but not serious serious, ya know?  So we set a dollar limit to exchange gifts – $100 each.  Sounds fair.  So I set out to buy a bunch of smaller presents for him that seemed practical.  I knew that he liked long sleeve t-shirts so I went to roots and the gap and got him a few of those:

(not the exact ones I got him, but very similar)

And at roots they had these really nice thick sports socks that were the perfect length (he’s picky when it comes to sports socks and doesn’t like the really tall ones or the ankle style):

(again, not the exact ones – and they weren’t low-cost either – around $20 for the pack of 3 pairs)

The total was just slightly over $100 and I was proud of myself for stretching the dollar limit to the max.

Come Christmas morning, the SO hands me a small box… and inside is an iPod Nano (2nd gen), which cost at least $200 at the time!  He had totally broken the dollar limit which we agreed on!

Of course, then he opens my present to him and teases me, “You got me socks?”

To this day he still talks about the year that he got me an iPod and all I got him was socks.  The funny thing is that he loved those socks and have been unsuccessful in finding a comparable replacement for them. So there!

I still have that iPod Nano, and he gave me another one a few years later (7th gen) as an upgrade – they both still work and I use one for podcasts and the other is for workout music.

What are some memorable gifts you’ve either received or given away?

Be sure to check out the rest of the Babes in Blogland for their favourite Christmas gifts:

Muji haul

Muji haul

I’ve been semi-naughty and gotten a few things from Muji.  Nothing is outright makeup, but it’s all appeal related items that I don’t really need.  In my defense, I’ve been after these Muji items ever considering that they opened their first Canadian store last November.  But it was mayhem after the opening: line-ups to get into the store, crowds, and out of stock / empty shelves for months.  Finally, it seems things have quiet down and when I stopped into the store yesterday, they had everything I wanted in stock, and I didn’t have to shove any individual out of the way or “accidentally” bump into them with my shopping basket…

My loot!

Here are the items I got:

Eyelash curlers: the standard style ($8.50) and the portable travel version ($6)
I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Muji eyelash curler and it’s been out of stock for ages. The sales associate was just stocking these so I grabbed both styles.

Sensitive Skin Cleansing Oil ($14.50 for 200ml)
Another popular Muji product which I’ve been curious about. I have absolutely NO service in getting yet another cleansing oil, but eh, I do use them up with regularity so I’m not concerned. I was also partly influenced by Abi of auberginereverie and her Muji skincare haul.  Muji also uses a regular version which has mineral oil as its base, rather than olive oil based like this sensitive Skin version.

Linen blend facial blotting paper ($2.50) 75mmx99mm
I’m a blotting paper fiend! I’m actually planning on doing a blog post on my blotting paper stash, so this will be included in that post.

Cotton pads: cotton puff ($2.50 for 158 pcs) and cut cotton, ecru ($3 for 140 pcs)
Not sure if you’ve noticed, but I love trying out new facial cottons!  The ecru one I’m hoping is comparable to Shiseido’s as recommended by Liz of appeal Reductionista and MK of Skincare dreams Come True.  (side note: omg Muji sells plain sheet and eye masks that you can soak with your own essence / serums – I’m going to look for those next time I’m in the store!)

Portable Soap dish ($5)
Random item, I know. but I gotten this specifically for a facial exfoliating bar that I want to keep separate from my body soap.  I really like the mesh liner which allows the bar to air dry.

Lastly, the pièce de résistance.  I’m seeking to reorganize my makeup area, and the first step is replacing some of the drawers that I currently have – I’ve cobbled together bits and pieces here and there, but they don’t really work well collectively.  Muji is popular for their acrylic cases, and in my mind, I thought they would be very expensive.  But in fact, they’re quite affordable, this 5 drawer unit was only $25:

Items inside for scale reference only, it did not come with them!

What I like about this is that the drawers are shallow so products aren’t being stacked on top of one another – this way I can see each item clearly.  I’ll be getting a lot more for sure!  I want to get the 2 drawer style and maybe drawer tower for eye shadow singles.  They even sell liners for the acrylic drawers so they can be used for jewellery as well.

I’ll do reviews on these items and a post devoted my makeup re-org!

Are you familiar with Muji?  What are your Muji favourites?

Blogmas Day 15: Christmas recipes

Blogmas Day 15: Christmas recipes

In today’s coordinated Babes in Blogland Blogmas post, we’re all sharing our preferred Christmas recipes… and I’m not qualified because I DON’T cook OR BAKE!  So instead of sharing a recipe, today I’m showing you the gingerbread house I got:

Minions!  I’ve built a few gingerbread houses in my time – typically I like having a Christmas film playing in the background and I go to town.

When I purchased it at the supermarket, the cashier positively squealed when she found this item, lol. Here’s what the package looks like fresh out of the box:

The instructions aren’t very comprehensive – nowhere did it say that these pieces needed to be cut apart, but I’m one of those people who likes to pre-plan before starting a project, so I knew these pieces looked dodgy!

Starting to glue the base structure:

I wish I could tell you this gingerbread house build went off without a hitch… but the damn icing wouldn’t STICK onto the gingerbread pieces! I put together the base as shown and then proceeded to attached the roof, only for the base to collapse on me!  This is pre-roof, pre-collapse:

This is what it looks like after the 2nd attempt, notice the amount of icing I had to slap on the seams:

And because I had to use extra icing, I essentially depleted my decorating glue for the gumdrops and sprinkles… I had to make do. Here it is put together and decorated before I ran out of icing:

Feast on your eyes on this!

(Scroll back up to the top of this post and compare to the photo on the box… )

And less than an hour after it was assembled, one of the side walls caved in – the structure still stands but it’s a 3-walled house… “open concept living quarters”  This was such a challenging experience for an adult to do, I can’t think of making this as a kid!  Geez.

And that’s how I “bake” for the holidays! have you ever built a gingerbread house before?  What’s YOUR favourite Christmas recipe?

Be sure to check out the rest of the Babes in Blogland for their favourite Christmas recipes:
