Tater the Tabby

Tater the Tabby

I made a new friend today! His name is Tater, he’s a tabby, and he lives about three homes down on my street.

We struck up a conversation on my walk. I approached him slowly and said “Well met, tabby!” in my high-pitched cat lady voice (the one normally reserved for Tabs), and he immediately flopped over and showed me his tum (the universal cat greeting).

I didn’t have any cat treats with me, but I’ll bring some along next time. hopefully with some snack bribery, I’ll be able to seal the deal and secure his feline friendship.

He kind of looks like Tabs, doesn’t he? If Tabs was wearing Spanx?

I have a thing for tabby boys with green eyes.

Get Jouer delivered ideal to Your Door! Jouer launches Le Matchbox, a new subscription Box service

chic SoCal casual makeup brand Jouer is jumping into the subscription box ring with a new quarterly service of their own, and the twist is a quiz.

Each selection (the boxes are $45 each, sent out four times/year) they send is figured out by your answers to a list of questions. You take the online quiz (questions about eye color, things like that), and then based on your answers, they fill each box with a different set of products and colors to best suit you.

Each box comes with both full-sized and sample/mini items — all from the Jouer brand — and a tiny magazine with product details and application tips.

Subscriptions are $45 per quarterly box, or you can also make a one-time purchase to try one for $65.

I don’t at the moment, but I like the element of randomness and the surprise, depending on the price and the overall value, especially if I’m exploring a new line. In the case of this service, the $45 boxes are absolutely less expensive than purchasing the products on their own would be.

For example, this Jouer Le Matchbox includes…

(1) full-size bottle of daily repair treatment Oil

(1) full-size Creme Eyeshadow Crayon in Renaissance

(1) full-size Moisturizing Lip Gloss in Hamptons

(1) full-size Mineral Powder blush in Blossom

(1) Eyelash Curler

(1) flat Kabuki Brush

(1) tiny sample-size bottle of a great perfume (smells like gardenia)

Just the full-size blush, the creme eyeshadow crayon and the gloss, for instance, would cost $74 (vs. $45 for the whole box).

As with some of these services, though, it also depends on whether you already own products from the brands (so you don’t get any dupes, unless you don’t mind).

On a completely unrelated topic…

The $18 Tweezerman Pushy as well as nail Cleaner
Seriously, the last thing I ever expected to autumn head over heels for was this bit tool from Tweezerman. It’s the $18 Tweezerman Pushy as well as nail Cleaner, as well as it’s one of those things that didn’t look like much at first, however it [turned out to be] really, truly handy. now I utilize it on the regular.

It’s a dual-ended stainless steel nail tool with a flat spatula-like pusher on one end to push back cuticles, as well as a little angled scooper on the other end to clean under as well as around nails. The whole thing is metal as well as about five inches long.

Sounds simple, right? Well, this specific doodad likewise does what it does extremely well. The edges on both ends are smooth, so they don’t scratch your nails, as well as the shaft is textured in locations to make it simple to grip while you’re getting out all the gunk (eww!). It likewise feels considerable as well as comfortable in my paw.

It’s $18, which made me gulp the very first time I saw the price, however it’s reliable as well as sturdy, so it must last a while. Being stainless steel, it may never rust. Darned thing might last permanently (or at least up until I lose it). It’s offered now on the internet as well as at drugstores as well as Ulta.

This is one of those tools that I didn’t believe I’d ever requirement up until I did, however now that I’ve utilized it, I’m hooked. now it’s a must-have for my at-home manis.

Now you’ve got that song stuck in your head, haha!

My work here is done.

OK, not really… first we have to talk about lashes. false lashes, to be specific.

I like the messy criss-cross action of Eyelure’s texture No. 117s ($3.99 a pair). The lashes are bundled up into little…bundles (?) that sort of overlap each other to create a wild, untamed criss-cross pattern, for an informal lash look with lots of bulk and a gentle lift at the outer corners.

They come with their own pre-made (heavy, uncomfortable) glue strips, but I skip them and use plain ol’ lash glue instead.

Regularly $4.99 a pair, they’re on sale now at Ulta for $3.99, which I think is a dang good deal for lashes this good.

Eyelures also tend to hold up pretty well. I can usually reuse them at least a few times, as long as I’m careful when I peel them off.

El Hub makes fun of me all the time for that saying, “I can’t.” I use it when I hit my limit and need a break from something, like when I’m marathoning a show on TV. I’ll say, “I can’t. I just can’t. I can’t. I can’t.” It’s one of my catchphrases.

So I may have to break my “no more shopping in the juniors section” rule for this shirt by ten Sixty Sherman ($24) at Nordstrom.

Gah! and I might also need that plaid scarf (the BP Heritage Plaid Square, $24).

I’m a sucker for a cute plaid print.

Totes getting a benefit vibe from these new Smashbox photo Angle Pure Pigment Gel Liners ($24). They’re a new line of gel liners in twisty pens. The gel comes out of the flexible angled tip, just like Benefit’s They’re real Push-Up Liner.

I was stoked to play with these when I found them at Ulta, but I got a little freaked out by the display… all of the liners had crusty bits of gel at the tips, which I cleaned off before taking these pics because they looked like a hot mess, and I couldn’t take it.

I dunno about the 36-hour wear time…. I don’t actually need my liner to last that long, LOL! have you tried these yet? If so what do you think?

I’ve used Benefit’s gel liner before, and it looks a lot like these. With those there’s certainly a learning curve. They aren’t the easiest product to work with because it’s hard to get the gel to go where you want it to. stuff has a mind of its own, but once you get it down, you can do some neat things with it.

Smashbox combination Soft Lights in Baked Starblush: Mmm… Doesn’t a Baked Starblush noise tasty best Now?

Smashbox combination Soft Lights in Baked Starblush: Mmm… Doesn’t a Baked Starblush noise tasty best Now?

Smashbox combination Soft Lights in Baked Starblush ($32)“Uh, yes, I’ll take a Baked Starblush as well as a tall Caramel Macchiato, please…”

I truly such as this product’s name: Baked Starblush. It seems both astronomical as well as tasty. This right here is the Smashbox combination Soft Lights in Baked Starblush, one of two new $32 shimmery baked highlighters (the other one is called Starburst) including five private shades (there are two of each color) — in this one’s situation a soft white, a soft pink, a rosy pink, a dirty increased as well as a bright rose. Both are offered now on the internet as well as at Smashbox counters, Nordstrom, Ulta as well as Sephora.

Smashbox combination Soft Lights in Baked StarblushStarblush, which you can wear on your cheeks, eyes, deal with as well as body, produces a subtle veil of light pink shimmer, as well as it’s one of those considerate subtle veils that doesn’t highlight pores. With a surface about halfway between a very shiny BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector as well as a less intense hourglass Ambient illumination Powder, it’s most likely much better for lasses with light as well as medium skin tones, since it may look ashy on deeper damsels.

As for wear time, on my combination oily/dry skin, it lasts between six as well as seven hours.

Smashbox combination Soft Lights in Baked Starblush

I assumption you might try to reach in there as well as gain access to the shades individually, however you’d requirement an awfully little clean for that…so I just mix all of the shades together as well as apply the integrated pink color anywhere I want some luminosity. It does develop up in layers, so you can add much more if you want to see much more of the color.

Wearing the new Smashbox combination Soft Lights in Baked Starblush on my upper cheekbones while awkwardly tilting my head…I like using Baked Starblush as a highlighter. I’ll apply it with a tapered eye clean (because they’re simple to control), as well as utilize between two as well as three layers. I believe it’s a excellent choice for anyone, however particularly for (lords and) women searching for a diffused highlight/soft focus impact that leans much more toward luminous as well as dewy than metallic. It’s kind to mature skin, too, since it doesn’t draw interest to pores as well as fine lines (YAY!). as well as since the shimmer doesn’t review the top, newcomers to the wild world of highlighting may likewise want to provide it a try.

Oh! — as well as pictures. I believe it looks beautiful in photographs, be they taken with a flash, natural light, mixed light — you name it. If you have a huge event to go to like a wedding event or prom, Starblush would be extremely handy.

If you want an alternate to the $45 hourglass Ambient Powders, this might save you a few bucks. They have a similar surface (another great alternate is the Sephora Collection MicroSmooth Baked shaping Trio in Sublime).

Excited about This! Sephora bright Future Gel Serum Concealer

Excited about This! Sephora bright Future Gel Serum Concealer

I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw these new bright Future Gel Serum Concealers at Sephora today.

So. Many. Colors! Twenty of them in all, which is an amazing range of shades, and they’re only $14 each!

What sealed the deal for me was talking to one of the makeup artists who raved on and on about them and how they don’t work out into fine lines but still offer complete coverage. I asked her if she thought they could deal with real-deal dark circles, and she said “definitely.” She even said that she uses them in some cases in place of foundation.

Yes. I like the sound of that.

1) Bavarian Cream, 2) Meringue, 3) Fondant, 4) Butter Cream, 5) Parfait, 6) Madeleine, 7) Custard, 8) Palmier, 9) Sable, 10) Eclair, 11) Tatin, 12) Pecan Pie, 13) Creme Caramel, 14) Toffee, 15) Dulce de Leche, 16) Pot de Creme, 17) chocolate Souffle, 18) Ganache, 19) Truffle, 20) Devil’s Food

I walked out of there with Pecan Pie and Creme Caramel, two of the lighter medium shades, and put BOTH of them on as soon as I got home. One under each eye. phase one of testing starts now.

So far, though, I really like the coverage — it’s certainly full — and how they sit on my skin. They’re also easy to build up in layers, and like the girl said at Sephora, they don’t work out into my fine lines (#YASS).

I’m a little uncertain about the colors I picked because I think they might be too yellow for me…but I’ll play around and maybe try layering them with a color correcting concealer.
